Agricultural University of Athens to FoodScale Hub

In the context of the Mobility Staff Visit to Novi Sad, Serbia, invited by Foodscale Hub (FSH) partner, we had the opportunity to collaborate with them, as well as the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Novi Sad.

The visit included presentations and discussions on various activities of FSH, such as European Union project management and financial support. The main goals of FSH are science communication, collaboration, and the exchange of expertise. As part of our visit, constructive proposals and potential collaborations were discussed. One useful idea was to involve farmers in the next summer school. Additionally, it was emphasized that it is important to engage farmers as partners in projects. A new project proposal was highlighted, focusing on consumer preferences regarding agricultural products that are produced by universities. Moreover, FSH suggested that AUA could help FSH by providing training on its areas of expertise, including among others rural development, agricultural consulting and decision support, circular economy and sustainability, supply chain management, digital marketing in agrifood, social media marketing, digital twins, and precision agriculture (e.g., drones).

Next, a visit at Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Novi Sad was scheduled. Firstly, a discussion session on potential future collaborations and synergies with faculty members was conducted. A collaboration with the Centre of Excellence Cooperation was proposed, as well as signing a Memorandum of Understanding was agreed. Then, we had the chance to see in practice in laboratories the usage of digital technologies for performing processes (e.g., quality controls, disease detections) for the potato cultivation and dairy products.

The experience concluded with a visit to the Institute of Viticulture and Enology in Sremski Karlovci vineyards which belong to experimental estate owned by the Department of Fruit Growing, Viticulture, Horticulture and Landscape Architecture (the University of Novi Sad), where we explored innovative practices in the agricultural sector and toured the winery's facilities discussing on digital agriculture in the winery sector.
