The TALLHEDA project, Transforming Access to Excellence with Successful Alliances of Higher Education in Digital Agriculture, successfully hosted its 2025 Summer School from August 26–29 in Belgium and the Netherlands. The program brought together researchers, students, and industry partners to explore cutting-edge developments in digital agriculture and foster collaboration across Europe.
A Week of Learning and Exchange
The Summer School opened on Tuesday, August 26 at UGent’s Campus Coupure, where Belgian, Greek, and Serbian partners welcomed participants. Highlights of the day included a lecture on soil sensing by Dr. Muhammad Qaswar and a visit to the experimental fields in Bottelare, followed by insights into Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) from Prof. Jeroen De Groote.
On Wednesday, August 27, activities moved to ILVO, where participants discovered agrifood technology innovations, toured the state-of-the-art dairy barn, and engaged in the DjustConnect dataspace workshop. The day concluded with a lecture and demonstration on precision farming and robotics led by Simon Cool.
The program continued on Thursday, August 28 with field visits to Inagro (Agrotopia) and ARDO. Participants explored advancements in greenhouse and field production before touring ARDO’s large-scale frozen vegetable processing facilities. The day ended with a social dinner in Ghent, offering an opportunity for networking in an informal setting.
The Summer School concluded on Friday, August 29 with an international excursion to the Netherlands for Precision Days at Jacob Van Den Borne. This event provided participants with hands-on exposure to state-of-the-art precision agriculture practices and technologies, reinforcing the link between research and practice.
Advancing Digital Agriculture Together
By combining lectures, field visits, workshops, and networking, the TALLHEDA Summer School 2025 strengthened ties between academia, research institutions, and industry. The program not only advanced participants’ understanding of digital agriculture but also fostered alliances that will support sustainable and data-driven farming across Europe.
