TALLHEDA 2nd Brainstorming Visit to the Agricultural University of Athens!

The TALLHEDA project continues to foster high-impact collaboration and knowledge exchange through its 2nd Brainstorming Visit, hosted by the Informatics Lab at the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA). Over three dynamic days, academic experts, industry leaders, researchers, and students gathered to explore the frontiers of digital agriculture, focusing on emerging technologies such as AI, data-driven tools, blockchain, and digital twins.

🌿 Day 1 Highlights: Setting the Stage for Innovation

The visit began with a warm welcome from Prof. Constantina Costopoulou, Director of the Informatics Lab at AUA. The day’s sessions laid a strong foundation, with an insightful keynote lecture from Prof. Branislava Lalic (via Webex) on Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) in Agronomy—highlighting how advanced models can translate agricultural data into actionable insights.

AUA students also took the spotlight, presenting projects that applied digital transformation tools to real-world agri-food challenges, followed by internal discussions including a focus on the Gender Equality Protocol, reflecting TALLHEDA's commitment to inclusivity in innovation.

🤝 Day 2 Highlights: Expert Insights and Collaborative Dialogues

The second day was opened by Prof. Thomas Bartzanas, Vice Rector for Research, Finance, and Development at AUA. A series of powerful brainstorming lectures followed, including:

  • Digital Twins for Smarter Agriculture by Kuzmanović Bojana and Cola Valentina (Food Scale Hub, Serbia)

  • AI-Driven Tools for Yield Prediction and Weed Detection by experts from ILVO, UGent, and ODYC, Belgium

  • Trustworthy Agri-Data Management by Havva Uyar (ENTRUST, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Network)

  • Blockchain in the Agrifood Sector by Giannaros Anastasios and Katerina Konstantinou (REZOS BRANDS S.A., Greece)

The day concluded with a networking dinner, encouraging informal knowledge exchange and stronger cross-border relationships.

🍇 Day 3 Highlights: Field Visit and Future Planning

On the final day, participants visited the Domaine Costa Lazaridi Winery, offering a practical view of digital transformation in viticulture. The visit was followed by an open discussion session, where key conclusions from the brainstorming lectures were summarized, and action points and future directions were outlined—ensuring momentum continues beyond the visit.
